I'm Thomas Rowland from Decorative Space.I've been in the plastering and specialist finishing industry for over 20 years working in Standard Plastering and advanced Specialist Finishing from your Polished Plasters, Moroccan Tadelakts to your Polished Cements. In that time I have completed hundreds of jobs from your residential bathrooms to grand mansion properties in the heart of Mayfair London, along with working on private assignments for individuals in the public eye. In that time I have gained an abundance of knowledge and experience, which I now have the great privilege of teaching you in this Extensive Standard Plastering Masterclass Course.

I always felt deep down I was never suited to doing a 9-5 office job

Showing up at the same time in the same place five days a week. When I think back to 2004 in truth I was a little lost back then. I went from different jobs not quite fitting in whether it was working for a company or just working behind a bar.

I didn't want to wake to the sound of the dreaded alarm and have no choice but to spend my time building someone else's business. Having a predictable week, a predictable month, and a predictable year. When I think back how much has changed. I wake on my own terms, I choose the jobs I want to do. I decide wether to take the day off or when I go on holiday. I'm in charge of my own money.

Of course I still have responsibilities. There are times when the job has to be finished by a certain time, but its still on my terms.

I like to have a calm morning and show up at 10.30am missing the morning rush, with a coffee in my hand, and put the music on I like. I can always choose to leave early that day or take a longer lunch if I want to. There's a HUGE freedom in that. I may decide to do three jobs back to back and take two weeks off.

Now I have the experience refurbishing whole houses completely, bringing in the different trades and running entire jobs right through to completion when I choose. And all of this has come from becoming a plasterer.

The common misconception about standard plastering

 Its an art!

Well actually its not an art, it's a formula, a strategy, and when you understand that formula and  strategy everything makes much more sense.

Baking a cake is a formula, a strategy. Mix all the ingredients in at the wrong time and in the wrong order however. Leave it in the oven the wrong length of time you get a bad cake.

Absolutely there's a skill to be learnt in plastering and bonding. You can't learn it in a weekend, a week, or in its entirety in one month, and anyone claiming you can is not being honest with you.

But it would be possible to learn plastering in three months with the right formula, strategy, and the right teacher.

Think of this course like one term of a university with me as your own personal one to one teacher.

Once I've taught you the techniques, formulas and strategies sure its going to take some practice. But I can guarantee you, that once you've mastered plastering, you will never ever forget it. Thats the fantastic thing about it, you could travel the world and come back and you'll still be able to plaster.

Teaching you how to plaster from a complete beginner to fully skilled plasterer in a step by step process the easiest , faster and most effective way possible.

What this Ultimate Plastering Masterclass will give you!

The freedom to become your own boss

Becoming a plasterer gives you the ability to run your own jobs, choose your own hours, puts you in charge of your own money, living your life on your own terms, and deciding when you take a holiday.

Why your trowel technique makes all the difference

The foundation you build here goes beyond just smooth walls. Unlike old school plastering where plasterers use a hawk and move the trowel away from their body, I teach you to work the trowel towards your body. This builds the right muscle memory that makes advanced finishes like polished plaster and micro cement not just possible, but natural. Most plasterers have to relearn their technique to get to that level, but you’ll be laying the groundwork from day one. Once you’ve nailed the fundamentals of plastering, you’ll be ready to explore advanced finishes like polished plaster and micro cement, skills that can elevate your craft and earning potential even further.

The chance to do up your own home

Maybe you’ve bought a property and want to plaster it yourself. that alone could save you thousands.

Down the road, you might decide to buy a run down place and renovate it completely. Here’s the kicker: after a couple of years plastering, you’ll naturally understand the other trades involved and the order they come in. That means you’ll have the confidence to hire the right people, spot the good tradesmen, and manage your dream home renovation yourself, something you might not otherwise be able to afford. That’s a huge money saver all around.

You can master plastering from where ever you live

I know starting out can feel overwhelming, but lesson one will get you that smooth finish you’re after. Then you’ll be ready for the next step. I’ve designed a simple free standing frame for you to build in one of the lessons that becomes our workstation to master plastering, including plaster boarding, which is much simpler than you think. This frame can sit in a corner of a room, a shed, or garage (or even outside if you cover it). You can put it together on your own, or get a mate to help out for a few beers, it’s that simple. If you prefer, you can also use a corner of a room in your house or a renovation project to master plastering with plasterboard instead of building the frame.

If your creative or have a passion this job is for you

You could be an up and coming singer, actor, musician, or artist, and need time to build that too.You might want to surf and live near the ocean to catch the wave when the surfs up. Being a plasterer is perfect not only is it a respected trade, it gives you flexibility to work part time if you choice to because you are your own boss. You can do two jobs in a row and take the week off. You may have a rehearsal that evening, no problem you just  finish early that day or take the afternoon off. When you've given your customer a fixed quotation for the job they're relaxed and your in charge of your own hours.

Feel like seeing a bit of the world

The fantastic thing about plastering is once you've learnt it you never forget it, you could be plastering for a couple of years decide to go travelling see the world and come back and you will always know it.

Future proofing yourself against AI

We're in a world now that's very different to when I was growing up, this was something in sci-fi movies, but AI is here and jobs are being lost by the day. In five years from now the work landscape will have changed again. One thing AI will not be replacing is the need for plasterers, they will be in demand more than ever. Now is the time to become a plasterer.

I've created a roadmap to becoming a skilled plasterer

Each lesson builds upon the last, the deeper your go onto the course the deeper you'll understand plastering itself.

And the beauty of this course is you don't get Decorative Space's Ultimate Plastering Masterclass for one week, one month, or even one year.

You get it for life!

and any bonus lessons in the future

Questions from other students

How am I going to learn to plaster if I don't have any walls to practice on?

No problem at all , I've created a lesson on building a very simple free standing frame for you to work on. This will be our workstation and has everything you need to master the skill of plastering on including, bonding, ceiling  and edges. This can sit in the corner of a room, a shed or garage ( or even outside but you would need to cover it.)You can also  create this area in the corner of a room with plasterboard in the plasterboard lesson without building the frame, if you are doing up your house or someone else's if you choose to instead. I also take you into real life situations of plastering and bonding so you fully understanding using the material in different settings.

Do I need an nvq or city of guilds to become a skilled plasterer to get all my work ?

Absolutely not. Those are only needed if you work on construction sites which is not what this course is designed for. I've never got any of my standard plastering jobs from there, it's not a place you need to be spending your day and getting your work from. Your not your own boss, you are not in control of your own hours and you are not in control of your own money, someone else is. Doing peoples homes and working with one or two local builders is where to get all the plastering jobs from. People want a good reliable plasterer, period. And when your up and running as a skilled plasterer, in terms of health and safety you don"t need a cscs card at all, that's again for construction sites. All you need is public liability insurance and thats it. I explain in more detail about public liability in the course.

And in the future if your ever decide you want to work on a construction site,  you can easily get a nvq once your a skilled plaster.

Do I offer one to one direct live coaching?

At present its not something I offer, (but may well very soon). I am by your side every step of the way though. This course is designed seamlessly to take you on a journey with me through step by step detailed extensive video modules that go deeper as the course go on, each lesson building on the last giving you a road map to becoming a skilled plasterer.

Do I need to buy  the materials to do the course?

Yes, you will need to order the materials from a builders merchants and they do deliver to your door thats standard. I also advise you along the way as to how to get the cheapest offers too. You can also buy the materials at different stages of the course if you choose and just start with the essentials to get you plastering.

Will I get a completion certificate when I finish the course?

Yes, when the course is finished completely you will automatically be issued a completion certificate.

I'm quite a shy person I'm not sure if I'd have the confidence to go and see a job at someones home and quote for it?

I was a very shy person back then, and you know what, going to see the jobs, giving quotations, and doing them within a few short months that just melted away and as the years have gone on its actually made me the confident person I am today. Not just in plastering but lots of areas of my life. I had no idea something like that would happen when I was first starting out.

Do I need to be able to drive to do the course, or once I'm a skilled plasterer doing jobs?

Absolutely not. I didn't drive for the first few years and was plastering full time. You order all the materials from the nearest builders merchants and they deliver them to the house your working on the first day. You arrive with your the few tools by public transport ( or taxi if your feeling flush that day)
